BB Designs x Applelec Interiors at the Surface Design Show 2026

We exhibited at the Surface Design Show 2026 at the Business Design Centre in London. It was one of the UK’s most prestigious events for design, materials and innovation in the built environment. We are incredibly proud to have been part of it.

The Collaboration

We partnered with Applelec Interiors to create a one-of-a-kind furniture piece. BB Designs brought sustainable design and manufacture. Applelec brought specialist illumination. Together we built a sculptural oval table from reclaimed wood slats. We wove living moss between the slats and illuminated the structure from within using warm LED strip lighting. The light glows through the gaps in the timber — it is tactile, beautiful and fully circular.

We crafted the piece using 98% reclaimed materials. It demonstrates what circular design looks like in practice.

TruCO₂ in Action

We passported every element of the piece using our TruCO₂ digital product passport system. We laser-etched a QR code onto the furniture. Anyone who scans it gets full visibility of the material breakdown, embodied carbon data and end-of-life reuse information.

The Surface Design Show gave us the perfect stage to demonstrate TruCO₂. Architects, interior designers and specifiers from across the UK attended the event. Sustainability reporting is growing in importance across commercial interiors. TruCO₂ gives clients the data they need to specify with confidence.

Design & Materials

We arranged reclaimed pallet wood slats vertically around an oval form. We packed petrified moss between each slat to add texture, warmth and acoustic benefit. LED tubes run vertically through the structure and cast a warm glow through the timber and moss. We finished the oval top in reclaimed oak with a water-based matt lacquer.

We chose every material for its sustainability credentials — reclaimed, recycled or responsibly sourced. The finished piece carries a full TruCO₂ product passport so its carbon story is clear and honest.

What’s Next

The Surface Design Show was a milestone moment for BB Designs and for TruCO₂. We are continuing to develop the product passport system. We are looking for more opportunities to collaborate with forward-thinking partners. We believe sustainable design should be the standard, not the exception.
