Thalia Waste Management – Classroom Furniture design

Thalia Waste Management had an underused space in its Knaresborough site. BB Designs was tasked with transforming it into a flexible, inspiring classroom environment for school trips and staff training, combining bespoke joinery, acoustic design and biophilic planting into a space that reflects Thalia’s nature-inspired ethos.

Services Provided

Design & Concept Development, Bespoke Furniture Design & Manufacture, Sustainable Materials Specification, Acoustic Design

Hexagonal Modular Desk System

Bespoke hexagonal reclaimed oak desk units designed for flexible group learning. Modular configuration allows multiple layout arrangements to suit different group sizes and activities, and the system is designed for disassembly and long-term reuse.

Suspended Acoustic Panels

Wavy ribbon-form light blue acoustic panels suspended from exposed timber trusses, designed to reduce reverberation in the high-ceilinged space. The colour was chosen to reflect Thalia’s brand identity and nature-inspired ethos.

Reclaimed Timber Feature Wall & Barn Door

A barn-style sliding door with bold black X detail in reclaimed wood, flanked by full-height reclaimed timber shelving units. Bespoke storage options were incorporated throughout to accommodate the needs of the classroom environment.

Biophilia

Lush vertical planting is integrated along the left wall, with a mix of foliage and flowering plants to improve air quality and support the well-being of everyone using the space.
